On Monday, August 31, children at Lincoln Christian Elementary began to benefit from after-school Spanish classes, courtesy of a $50,000 contribution from an anonymous donor.
Last year, the LCS School Board had an unexpected visitor present an extraordinary proposal: God has placed it on my heart to see the Gospel shared with Spanish-speaking people. The Board welcomed the donor's guarantee of $10,000 a year for five years to completely fund an elementary-aged Spanish program.
This fall, the school is offering two 6-week sessions. Each session features new material, so students can participate at any time - regardless of their Spanish experience. Registration is available for up to 60 students on a first-come, first-serve basis. Instructors include LCS parents, alumni and high school students with at least four years of high school Spanish and and/or two years in college.
Mary Lea Free, the Spanish instructor for Lincoln Christian High School, discovered the elementary-age curriculum from Arizona State University, recommended by the NE Department of Education.
Lincoln Christian is excited not only because this program represents an academic advantage beyond the traditional elementary classroom, but also because it helps fulfill the Great Commission, said Mrs. Free.
“Ultimately, this program lays the foundation of the importance of outreach in the hearts of our elementary-aged children,” stated Mrs. Free,” helping to equip them to go and make disciples of every nation.”
